Pointe Shoe Fitting Guide PDF Print E-mail

It’s a momentous occasion when a dancer rises up on her toes, especially when it is experienced for the first time. At Step’N Out we understand the importance of this experience and want to make it a special moment for each dancer.

At Step’N Out we have highly qualified staff. Each are specially trained in fitting pointe shoes. An improper fitting pointe shoe can be dangerous for the dancer and can easily result in injury. This is why we are committed to ensuring that each dancer receives a proper fitting with one of our Pointe Shoe Technicians.

Pointe shoes are personal to each individual dancer. Shank strength, width, length and much more are taken into consideration when searching for the perfect shoe. With that in mind, here are a few simple steps we follow prior to actually fitting your shoes:

  • Speak with your teacher to find out which type of accessory you are permitted to wear in your shoes: gel pads, lambs wool, jelly tips etc.
  • Set up an appointment to ensure a technician is ready to do your fitting when you arrive. Remember, a fitting can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes.
  • If you have danced pointe before and require a new pair of shoes, we ask that you bring in your old shoes in for us to see. This will help us in determining the next best shoe for you.
  • Bring any accessories that you wear in your shoes. A fitting without the proper accessory will alter your fit. Trim your toenails so they are nice and short.

All of these considerations are greatly appreciated by our Pointe Shoe Technicians and will aid in optimizing your pointe shoe fitting experience.
